Vietnam has reiterated its dedication to aiding Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), emphasizing the importance of the Five-Point Consensus as the primary framework for fostering peace and stability in the country. During an informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Myanmar’s significance as a member of ASEAN and reaffirmed Vietnam’s support for initiatives aimed at promoting national reconciliation, economic recovery, and better governance in Myanmar.
Minister Lê Hoài Trung urged ASEAN to adopt more practical and concrete measures, including maintaining regular dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar. These efforts, he suggested, are necessary to effectively monitor developments and encourage meaningful progress in the region. Vietnam also expressed its willingness to collaborate closely with the 2026 ASEAN Chair and other member states to address social challenges, combat transnational crime, and enhance regional cooperation.
