Vietnam’s Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng held a meeting in Hanoi with Jennifer Wicks, the newly appointed US Ambassador, where he underscored Vietnam’s dedication to strengthening its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States. The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the US as a crucial partner for Vietnam and advocated for enhanced collaboration in sectors such as trade, investment, technology, education, digital transformation, and security.
During their discussions, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng stressed the importance of finalizing a fair and balanced bilateral trade agreement to ensure greater business certainty. The talks also delved into cooperation across defence, cybersecurity, and law enforcement, alongside addressing humanitarian efforts. A key focus was on addressing the lingering impacts of the Vietnam War, with initiatives like dioxin cleanup, unexploded ordnance removal, and the identification of missing soldiers being highlighted.
Ambassador Wicks expressed the United States’ dedication to bolstering economic ties and supporting Vietnam’s developmental ambitions. She also highlighted the US’s commitment to enhancing collaboration in education, innovation, maritime security, and tackling regional issues. Furthermore, she pledged continued support for joint humanitarian programs related to the remnants of the war and emphasized the importance of fostering closer people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
The meeting reflected both countries’ mutual interests in expanding their partnership across various fields, demonstrating a shared commitment to addressing historical challenges while looking towards future opportunities.
