In a significant move to bolster intellectual property protection, Thailand is set to destroy over 2 million items seized in cases of intellectual property infringement. This year, 2.08 million counterfeit goods are slated for destruction, marking a 36.45% increase from the 1.52 million items destroyed in 2025. The estimated value of these goods has surged to THB2.14 billion, up from THB900.91 million in the previous year.
The range of counterfeit goods includes clothing, watches, bags, electronic equipment, vehicle parts, medicines, cosmetics, food, and beverages, among other consumer products. Thai authorities have been actively conducting enforcement operations targeting both online and offline markets to curb the proliferation of these counterfeit items.
The destruction process is being meticulously carried out at facilities equipped with environmental management systems in Samut Prakan and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This ensures that the disposal is conducted safely and without causing harm to the surrounding communities, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to environmental responsibility alongside intellectual property enforcement.
Despite these efforts, Thailand remains on the Watch List under the 2026 Special 301 Report concerning intellectual property protection and enforcement. To address these challenges, Thailand is advancing a collaborative intellectual property work plan with the United States. This initiative aims to enhance enforcement measures, reduce the sale of counterfeit goods, protect consumers, and create a more transparent business environment.
