In a bid to deepen economic ties and attract more foreign investment in advanced technology sectors, Vietnam’s National Assembly President Trần Thanh Mẫn recently engaged with top executives from major South Korean conglomerates in Seoul. The discussions centered around bolstering collaboration in high-tech industries, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, energy, and sustainable development. This strategic move underscores Vietnam’s focus on aligning with South Korea’s corporate giants to enhance its technological and economic landscape.
During his meeting with Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-moon, Mẫn lauded the company’s significant role in Vietnam’s economy through investments and job creation. He advocated for an increase in Samsung’s high-tech investments to further propel Vietnam’s economic growth. Roh reciprocated by reaffirming Samsung’s commitment to Vietnam’s national priorities, including digital transformation and technological innovation, while emphasizing ongoing support for local businesses through initiatives like smart factory programs and skills development.
Mẫn also held fruitful discussions with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, where he encouraged the conglomerate to intensify its investments in sectors like semiconductors, AI, and renewable energy. He expressed appreciation for SK’s ambitious proposal to establish a large-scale AI center in Vietnam and its exploratory plans for energy infrastructure and AI data centers, which could significantly boost Vietnam’s tech capabilities.
In talks with LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuk-soo, Mẫn highlighted LG Group’s extensive investment exceeding $10 billion in Vietnam, calling for deeper collaboration with Vietnamese suppliers and enhanced focus on technology and skills development. LG recognized Vietnam’s vital role in its global production network, signaling ongoing commitment to the country.
The series of meetings also included discussions with Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin, where Mẫn urged the company to broaden its investments in smart urban development, infrastructure, tourism, and services. He emphasized the importance of sustainability, green development, and adherence to ESG standards as Lotte advances its major projects in Vietnam. These dialogues reflect Vietnam’s strategic efforts to strengthen economic partnerships with South Korea, particularly in cutting-edge technology and energy sectors.
