Việt Nam and Singapore are poised to enhance their political trust and strategic coordination as they amplify collaboration in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. With Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm’s state visit to Singapore scheduled from May 29 to 31, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighted that bilateral relations have significantly progressed beyond traditional economic engagements. The focus now increasingly lies on future-oriented sectors that underpin long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.
The elevation of this relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025 underscores the growing political trust and shared strategic interests between the two nations. Singapore continues to be one of Việt Nam’s key economic partners and ranks as its second-largest foreign investor. The collaborative ventures span thousands of projects across various sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology.
A prominent example of this cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is evolving towards more sustainable and smart industrial models in alignment with sustainable development goals. Both countries are also ramping up cooperation in fields like artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are underway to link innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in the two countries.
Economic cooperation is expected to remain a central theme during Tô Lâm’s visit, with a focus on deepening collaboration in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development. Initiatives like “Tech Connect” are anticipated to foster stronger ties between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit is also expected to bolster the next generation of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects across Việt Nam.
Additionally, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a prominent regional security forum. Vietnamese officials regard this invitation as acknowledgment of Việt Nam’s growing international role and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
