Vietnam has underscored its pivotal role in enhancing cooperation between ASEAN and Russia, following the pivotal ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit that celebrated 35 years of dialogue relations. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Vietnam’s significant contributions to the summit’s success, which included promoting ASEAN’s central role and supporting efforts to deepen the strategic partnership between the bloc and Russia.
At the summit, the Vietnamese delegation, led by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, emphasized the importance of dialogue, cooperation, peaceful dispute resolution, and adherence to international law. Vietnam proposed expanding collaboration in critical areas such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. These proposals align with the summit’s adoption of new frameworks aimed at strengthening ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with energy emerging as a key focus of the partnership.
In addition to these initiatives, Vietnam announced its plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This move reflects Vietnam’s commitment to fostering future regional cooperation and highlights its role in promoting dialogue and collaboration among young leaders in the region.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng held discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their talks centered on expanding cooperation in various sectors, including energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport.
Vietnam expressed confidence that the summit’s outcomes would bolster ASEAN–Russia relations, enhance regional stability, and create new opportunities for economic growth and cooperation across Eurasia. The summit’s success is seen as a testament to Vietnam’s active participation in promoting regional cooperation and its dedication to strengthening ties between ASEAN and Russia.
