Vietnam has underscored its expanding role in fostering collaboration between ASEAN and Russia, following the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit, which celebrated 35 years of dialogue relations. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized Vietnam’s significant contributions to the summit’s success, particularly in promoting ASEAN’s central role and supporting efforts to deepen the bloc’s strategic partnership with Russia.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, the Vietnamese delegation prioritized dialogue, cooperation, peaceful dispute resolution, and adherence to international law. Vietnam also advocated for expanding collaboration in crucial sectors such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. The summit resulted in the adoption of new frameworks designed to bolster ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with energy identified as a key pillar of this partnership.
In a move reflecting its commitment to future regional cooperation, Vietnam announced it would host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This highlights Vietnam’s dedication to nurturing upcoming diplomatic relations and partnerships. On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng met with Vladimir Putin to reaffirm the commitment to strengthening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their discussions centered on expanding cooperation in areas such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport.
Vietnam conveyed that the outcomes of the summit are set to enhance ASEAN–Russia relations, boost regional stability, and create new avenues for economic growth and cooperation across Eurasia. The meeting between Prime Minister Hưng and President Putin further solidified the resolve to deepen bilateral ties, particularly in strategically important sectors, paving the way for a stronger partnership in the years to come.
