Vietnam and the Netherlands have reaffirmed their commitment to broadening cooperation across multiple sectors following their second deputy minister-level political consultation in Hanoi. Co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Lê Thị Thu Hằng and Dutch Deputy Foreign Minister Marcel de Vink, the meeting reviewed the progress in bilateral relations, highlighting growth in diplomatic exchanges and economic cooperation. Both nations emphasized their shared interest in strengthening ties at regional and international forums.
Vietnam outlined its ambitious development goals of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a developed, high-income nation by 2045. To realize these targets, the country plans to prioritize science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as engines of sustainable growth. The Vietnamese delegation advocated for the deepening of the Comprehensive Partnership and existing strategic cooperation frameworks between the two countries. They also encouraged enhanced collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, sustainable agriculture, climate adaptation, green transition, digital transformation, and innovation.
The Netherlands, in turn, expressed its intention to fortify its relationship with Vietnam, recognizing the country as a significant and reliable partner in the Asia-Pacific region. Dutch officials conveyed interest in sending larger business delegations to Vietnam and expanding collaboration in high-technology sectors, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, scientific research, and workforce development.
Both nations agreed to bolster cooperation in security, defense, justice, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. They also emphasized the importance of fostering closer links between local governments and businesses. In terms of regional and global issues, both sides reiterated their support for multilateralism, free trade, and the peaceful resolution of disputes in line with international law, underscoring the significance of maintaining peace, stability, and freedom of navigation and overflight, particularly within the framework of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
