Vietnam and Canada have formalized an Action Plan to enhance their Strategic Partnership, focusing on strengthening cooperation across a wide array of sectors. This plan was solidified during a meeting between Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Ottawa.
The newly adopted Action Plan transforms prior commitments made by the leadership of both nations into actionable programs and projects. It encompasses numerous areas of collaboration, including political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, sustainable development, transport, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Both foreign ministers agreed to maintain regular reviews and updates of the Action Plan, emphasizing the need for stronger coordination among government agencies, local authorities, and businesses for effective implementation. Additionally, they pledged to bolster existing bilateral consultation mechanisms and explore new dialogue frameworks critical to their strategic interests.
In their discussions, Trung and Anand also addressed regional and international issues, agreeing to enhance collaboration through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC. They committed to mutual support in hosting APEC meetings in 2027 and 2029, respectively, and Vietnam expressed its support for Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028.
