Vietnam and Azerbaijan are set to enhance their strategic partnership following high-level talks between Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva in Baku on October 14. The discussions, held during Xuan’s visit for the seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), focused on boosting cooperation across several key sectors.
Both nations emphasized their mutual commitment to advancing their strategic partnership, originally established after a visit by Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam to Azerbaijan in 2025. The talks highlighted potential areas for expanded economic, trade, and investment collaboration, particularly in oil and gas, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, education, and science and technology.
The leaders discussed the possibility of joint energy projects and encouraged businesses from both countries to explore investment opportunities. They also agreed on the importance of strengthening high-level exchanges and improving coordination between government agencies to effectively implement existing bilateral agreements.
In a bid to facilitate travel, tourism, and business exchanges, the two countries are considering visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders and the establishment of direct air routes. Additionally, the discussions underscored the importance of cooperation in culture, education, mining, and aluminium production, alongside fostering stronger people-to-people ties.
Vietnam and Azerbaijan pledged to deepen their coordination at regional and international forums, supporting multilateralism and upholding the United Nations Charter and international law. The talks reflect a shared vision for a stronger partnership that leverages both nations’ strengths and strategic interests.
