Police forces from Vietnam’s Tây Ninh Province and Cambodia’s Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Tboung Khmum provinces have committed to bolstering their joint efforts to enhance security and public order along their shared border. This decision emerged from a recent conference held in Tây Ninh, where officials assessed ongoing collaboration and discussed strategies to better combat cross-border crime.
The meeting underscored the significance of direct communication and frequent exchanges of information to swiftly address cases involving illegal activities that traverse the border. The four provincial police forces have been actively sharing intelligence and coordinating actions to tackle various criminal enterprises, including drug and human trafficking, smuggling, money laundering, and online fraud.
In an effort to further secure the border, the officials agreed on increasing patrols and enhancing surveillance of trails and crossings to deter unlawful entry and exit, which could aid organized transnational crime. The collaboration will also extend to counter-terrorism initiatives, arms trafficking prevention, and addressing high-tech crimes while keeping an eye on emerging non-traditional security threats.
The conference concluded with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation aimed at reinforcing crime prevention measures and maintaining peace and safety within the border regions. This agreement signifies a continued commitment to addressing shared security concerns and fostering a safer environment along the Vietnam-Cambodia border.
