Vietnam’s 16th National Assembly is set to convene for its first extraordinary session from August 3 to August 24 in Hanoi, where lawmakers will address a comprehensive legislative agenda along with significant national projects. This session will feature discussions on 33 agenda items, including the approval of 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions. Additionally, first readings for seven more bills are scheduled, alongside debates on seven critical national matters.
The proposed legislation spans various sectors, touching on important areas such as petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense. Lawmakers are expected to engage in thorough deliberations to shape the future of these sectors, ensuring that the legal framework supports Vietnam’s continued growth and stability.
In addition to legislative matters, the assembly will evaluate several major infrastructure and development projects. Key initiatives on the table include the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5, proposed changes to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project, and the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project. These projects are crucial for enhancing the nation’s infrastructure and energy capabilities, reflecting the government’s commitment to modernization and sustainable development.
Further discussions will focus on the establishment of Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh as cities, alongside special policy mechanisms for enhancing renewable energy, projects related to APEC 2027, and advancing digital transformation. These initiatives highlight Vietnam’s strategic push towards becoming a more connected and sustainable economy, adapting to both regional and global economic shifts.
