The 48th session of Vietnam’s National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee has opened, with a strong focus on legislative work as the current term nears its end. Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn emphasized that the session’s work is crucial for preparing for the NA’s upcoming 10th sitting, which will be the last of the current term.
The main priority of this session is law-making, with the committee reviewing 13 draft laws. Seven of these are being introduced for the first time, while six are revised versions that were debated during a previous sitting. Key areas for legislation include judicial matters, such as the Law on Extradition and the Law on Legal Assistance, as well as revisions to laws on education, higher education, and vocational training.
Chairman Mẫn noted that only the most urgent laws—those necessary to address pressing social and economic issues—will be passed during the final sitting. While the government proposed many items, only those that can be approved in a single session will be considered. The remaining proposals will be left for the incoming 16th National Assembly.
