Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng is advocating for the establishment of a highly skilled, international search and rescue team to enhance the nation’s participation in global humanitarian and disaster relief efforts. This announcement was made during a ceremony that recognized Vietnam’s mission to Venezuela, where a 124-member team successfully conducted rescue operations following two devastating earthquakes.
At the event, the Prime Minister lauded the team’s professionalism and dedication to humanitarian work. The Vietnamese contingent, comprising military and public security professionals, made significant contributions by recovering 57 victims, delivering 5.6 tonnes of essential supplies, providing medical assistance to over 130 people, and offering financial aid to the communities impacted by the disaster.
To further enhance Vietnam’s capabilities in such critical missions, the Prime Minister urged authorities to focus on advancing rescue operations through the acquisition of modern equipment, specialized training, and improved coordination. He also emphasized the importance of forging stronger international alliances to bolster these efforts. In addition, he highlighted the need for better support and recognition for those who participate in overseas humanitarian missions.
The Prime Minister’s call for action comes as Vietnam’s rescue mission received recognition for its impactful contributions, with the team being awarded the Hero of Venezuela Medal. This honor underscores the significant role that Vietnam can play in assisting nations in times of crisis and reinforces the value of expanding its humanitarian reach globally.
