Vietnam and Panama are poised to enhance their bilateral relations and economic cooperation during the official visit of Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino to Vietnam from October 5 to 8. This visit aims to explore avenues for expanding ties in several sectors, including agriculture, telecommunications, infrastructure, maritime transport, port logistics, banking, tourism, and education.

The diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Panama, established in 1975, has grown through various high-level exchanges and consultations. Both nations are keen on leveraging their strategic geographic positions to facilitate connections between Southeast Asian and Latin American markets.

Economic cooperation remains a focal point of the bilateral agenda. In 2025, trade between the two countries reached approximately $478.1 million, marking a 19.2% increase from the previous year. Vietnam exports items such as footwear, electronics, textiles, vehicles, and seafood to Panama, while importing timber, seafood, and raw materials from the Central American nation.

Panama’s pivotal location along the Panama Canal positions it as a critical player in global shipping and logistics, presenting Vietnamese businesses with opportunities to access Central American and Caribbean markets more effectively. The visit by President Mulino is expected to result in new agreements and initiatives that will further trade, investment, and cooperation across various sectors.

Additionally, both countries aim to reinforce existing mechanisms for political and economic collaboration, ensuring that their partnership continues to thrive and benefit both economies. The visit underscores a mutual commitment to deepening ties and exploring new opportunities for growth and development.
