Thailand’s Smart Water Operation Centre has issued a warning to residents as the southwest monsoon intensifies, bringing with it the potential for ongoing rain and flooding. The authorities have highlighted that heavy rainfall and isolated downpours are particularly anticipated in the eastern regions of the nation and along the western coastline of southern Thailand. People residing in areas susceptible to flooding have been advised to stay vigilant for flash floods and possible forest runoff.
Weather agencies have indicated that the intensifying southwest monsoon is impacting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Additionally, a monsoon trough, which extends across northern Thailand and reaches into Vietnam, is further contributing to the widespread occurrence of thunderstorms.
The period from June 30 to July 3 is expected to witness scattered storms and significant rainfall, with eastern Thailand and the southern west coast identified as areas at the highest risk. As the monsoon system progresses, between July 4 and July 6, rainfall is predicted to persist, with northern regions likely to experience these conditions as Thailand continues to be influenced by strong southwest winds.
In response to these forecasts, officials have urged communities to stay informed about the latest weather updates. There is a particular emphasis on remaining alert for any sudden flooding, especially in areas that are known to be vulnerable.
