Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Chí Dũng has urged ministries and agencies to focus on mastering core technologies when developing Việt Nam’s strategic products. Speaking in Hà Nội, he stressed that these products must not only be ready for production but also capable of evolving with global technological progress.
He emphasized that businesses must be ready to participate, with commercial potential and competitiveness as decisive factors. The Ministry of Science and Technology has been tasked with working alongside other ministries to identify key products, assess their value, and place research orders to meet market demand.
Agriculture was highlighted as a sector needing technological breakthroughs to overcome challenges such as natural disasters, epidemics, and low value-added output. Dũng noted that science and technology must provide real solutions with clear impacts to accelerate sustainable growth.
A shortlist of six technologies has been identified, including large language models and Vietnamese virtual assistants, 5G systems and devices, edge-processing AI cameras, blockchain traceability platforms, autonomous mobile robots, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Of these, three — language models, 5G, and AI cameras — have been prioritized for immediate rollout.
Officials from defence, agriculture, and security ministries also stressed the importance of blockchain traceability, AI in farming, and domestic production of advanced technologies to reduce reliance on imports and enhance national competitiveness.
