Vietnam and Lithuania are seeking to strengthen their bilateral ties, focusing on expanding cooperation in various key sectors. During a meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys discussed opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, the digital economy, energy, logistics, cybersecurity, science, and technology. The discussions underscored the significant potential both nations see in deepening their partnership.
One of the focal points of the talks was the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). Vietnam urged Lithuania to play a role in facilitating the ratification of this agreement by the remaining EU member states. Additionally, Vietnam sought Lithuania’s support in advocating for the removal of the European Commission’s “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood exports, which has been a point of contention affecting trade relations.
Lithuania expressed its commitment to enhancing Vietnam-EU relations and announced plans to send a business delegation to Vietnam. This delegation aims to explore various investment opportunities, signaling Lithuania’s interest in tapping into the Vietnamese market. Such initiatives are expected to boost economic ties and foster a more robust partnership between the two countries.
Beyond economic cooperation, Vietnam and Lithuania also agreed to work together on the international stage. The two nations plan to enhance their collaboration at the United Nations and strengthen ASEAN-EU relations. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of supporting peace, stability, and freedom of navigation in line with international law, highlighting their shared commitment to global cooperation and security.
