In a bid to bolster cooperation between Vietnam and northeastern Cambodia, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ recently visited the provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit aimed to enhance collaboration between Vietnamese localities and their Cambodian counterparts, while also taking stock of Vietnamese business activities and the living conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community in these regions.

During discussions with local leaders, both parties underscored the potential for expanding cooperation in various sectors such as trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials acknowledged the strengthening ties with Vietnamese provinces, facilitated through cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and joint development projects. The province of Kratie, in particular, lauded the diplomatic and socio-economic progress made with Vietnam, which includes collaborative efforts in infrastructure development and the repatriation of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers’ remains who perished during wartime in Cambodia.

Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ expressed appreciation for the contributions of Vietnamese enterprises engaged in agriculture, mining, and rubber production in Cambodia. He noted that these ventures have significantly contributed to local economic growth and reinforced bilateral relations. In Stung Treng, local authorities highlighted the province’s promising investment prospects in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging Vietnamese businesses to explore these opportunities further.

Additionally, the ambassador engaged with members of the Vietnamese-origin community, addressing legal and livelihood issues while promoting adherence to local laws. He also emphasized the importance of education and sustainable development for the community’s future. This engagement underscores Vietnam’s efforts to support its diaspora in Cambodia and ensure their well-being and integration into local society.

Vietnam’s economic footprint in Cambodia is notable, with over 200 investment projects and a total registered capital of approximately $3 billion, positioning it as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors. This substantial investment reflects the strong economic ties between the two nations and the continuing commitment to mutual development and cooperation.
