Vietnam and Azerbaijan are aiming to deepen their strategic partnership, as conveyed during high-level discussions between Vietnamese General Secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee and President To Lam and Azerbaijani presidential envoy Elchin Amirbayov in Hanoi. The talks underscored the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation to support development goals and contribute to regional and international peace and stability.

He emphasized the significance of their bilateral relations being elevated to a Strategic Partnership during his state visit to Azerbaijan in May 2025. He called for stronger political trust and the effective implementation of existing agreements to ensure practical cooperation that benefits both nations.
Amirbayov commended Vietnam’s rapid development and growing international standing, reaffirming Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two countries. Both leaders agreed on the need to increase high-level exchanges and improve bilateral cooperation mechanisms, encouraging greater involvement from government agencies, businesses, and local authorities.
Key areas identified for expanded cooperation include trade, investment, oil and gas, renewable energy, transport, logistics, science and technology, education, and culture. The discussions also focused on enhancing coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums, such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, with a shared commitment to promoting global peace, stability, and cooperation.
During the talks, Amirbayov conveyed Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s greetings to To Lam, who extended an invitation to President Aliyev and his spouse to visit Vietnam, signaling a continued commitment to fostering strong diplomatic ties between the two nations.
