Donald Trump’s claim that India would halt Russian oil purchases has triggered an immediate and significant response from Moscow. Russia’s Ambassador, Denis Alipov, announced a major defense push, reaffirming “uninterrupted” military cooperation.
While India’s MEA refuted Trump’s claim by citing “national interest,” and Alipov called the oil trade “beneficial,” the main Russian response was the defense announcement.
Alipov highlighted that 70% of India’s military hardware is Russian-made, citing the success of “Operation Sindoor” and joint ventures like the BrahMos missile and Su-30 MKI jets.
The new offer goes further, proposing “local production of the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter” to support India’s AMCA program. It also includes drones, anti-drone systems, and advanced radar.
This move is a clear strategic play, reminding India of Russia’s deep, long-term value as a defense partner at the exact moment the US is applying economic and verbal pressure over India’s energy choices.
